Desert Of My Heart

In the desert of my heart

past loves are left to wither

Their bones scattered

bleached and dry

half covered in sand

that burns without flames

No survivors

Yeow! Ouch! Done with them, I guess... I've read it over three times now and get the same start as the first time. It's like touching a hot stove. Well done.

Ooh! The last line is the best.

An undulating dune
Of sand very fine.
The tip blows away
Changing its outline.
Revealing in its shift
A hitherto unseen
And priceless gift
An oasis so green.
A verdant solace
For eyes now parched
A saving grace
For memories that torched.

most of mine have joined them,, those dry withered bones... but one calls to me from the grave and haunts me every day......

This is very good. The images are crystal clear. I'm thinking of The English Patient or the Old West. My favourite line is: "that burns without flames". There's that double meaning with the scorching sand and the burnt out flame of love. You have such a gift, Fenny.

You can FEEL this poem; the dryness, death and waste of the past loves.

I love this! Hits hard, to the point -- takes no survivors. Well written... ;)
