Never To Be

Love

was served

on a silver platter

but unconsumed

we let it lay

though our starving hearts

beat loud

In silence

we denied ourselves

the undeniable

for both our hand

already given

forced us

to hold out

Time

it wasn't on our side

but hope

never far away

and though

we couldn't speak our heart

the promise of tomorrow

gave strength

But now

death has come

to end the dreams

that sneaked in mind

and I must let you go

crying secret tears

in a heart

already drenched

A fine testament to the addage: follow your heart. Choices we make may be the right ones, but the pain of not having what we truly wished for makes us question the choice again.

So sad but heartfelt. It makes me ache. I love when poetry can really make me feel deeply.

You are part of Poets Who Blog September Collection. It would be great if you would visit the other blogs in the collection and comment.
