Summer To Fall
The last summer sun kisses
colour tree and shrub
from green to yellow
while late birds gluttonize
on overripe fruit
before they escape
and fly south
Thunderstorm crescendos
rip the air
and let rain and hail

bedevil stock and land
while the North wind
carries the fragrance
of late bloom
and makes us shiver
Not long now
before these early autumn signs
will cause summer
to fall

So many of the phrases in this are apt, creating the perfect atmostpheres for this time. I love the last line too.

You've captured the transition to autumn so well Fenny! Loved reading this. Autumn is my favorite season. I'm waiting for the maple leaves to turn red, won't be long.
