My Little Icarus
You belong to the sky
as much as I’m earthbound
and although fate brought us together
that day you lay broken-winged
on the chilly ground
we knew the day would also come
when I’d have to let you go
and you’d follow the sun
So fly away my little Icarus
your wings have healed
and you must go on
before it’s too late
and winter spreads his frosty blanket
over bare soil fields
Fly to where family awaits
and maybe think of me
every once in a while
but never dwell

This is sweet, but I'm not sure I understand who your Icarus is - it must be a very personal piece.

hello, fenny
nice poem. though your site is much more elaborate than mine, i think we may share a common sensibility, and maybe similar sorts of readers. i would be happy to link to your blog. When you have the time, if you're so inclined, please look at my poetry blog http://notinthenewstoday.com/
and let me know if you are interested in linking.

I enjoyed visiting your blog. I've read several of your poems and enjoyed each one. This poem, 'My Little Icarus', grabbed my heart...especially the last words, 'think of me every once in a while...but never dwell'. Words from the very heart of you, I think. Unselfishly beautiful!
